A little more than half of all Americans consume alcohol at least once per year. This statistic has remained somewhat static for the last ten years, however another trend has recently developed. Although males reportedly drink more often and more heavily than their female counterparts, women have steadily been closing the gap.
The effect of this new trend could unfortunately lead more women to alcohol rehab centers. While it’s hard to say what the cause of this increase is, women’s binge drinking (consuming more than four drinks in two hours) rates increased by almost 18 percent since 2005.
